Small Weller Tribute Band Night Success

Two hundred people thronged the John Alker Club in Flixton on Friday night to hear local tribute band “Small Weller” and guitarist/singer Michelle Cowlishaw. The event was to support the Breathe Clean Air Group Fighting Fund. Other features of the successful evening were the auction of a football shirt signed by 9 of the 1966 England World Cup team, and a full-screen showing of the brand new video “We Want to Breathe Clean Air” featuring Urmston’s, very own, “Gasmask Boy”.

The group’s Fundraising organiser Lyn Davies, thanked the musicians, DJ James Murray, the John Alker Club, Urmston businesses for raffle prizes, David Fernandez-Arias and the video production team Musketeer Resistance and the Gasmask Boy. She said that the video has just been launched on Facebook and Twitter and urged people to view it @TheGasMaskBoy.

“The Barton Renewable Energy Plant is a threat to our local air quality”, said Lyn, “but with people power we can defeat it”. She urged everybody to attend the Public Inquiry on 13th November at Manchester United Football Ground.

Residents of the Humphrey Park area in Urmston attended a Coffee Morning at their local Community Centre on Sunday morning, where bacon butties were on the menu. Members of the Breathe Clean Air Group were on hand to explain the health impacts of living next to an incinerator and how to have their say at the forthcoming Public Inquiry.
