Community Secretary’s Decision Challenged by Trafford Council
Tonight, over 200 people packed the Council Chamber at an Extraordinary Meeting of Trafford Council. The meeting was called to discuss a motion to quash the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government’s controversial decision, to grant planning permission for the Davyhulme Incinerator.
Speakers highlighted that Eric Pickles has contradicted his own policies on Localism, by ignoring the views of local people and their elected representatives.
Councillors, from all political persuasions, commended the dedication of the Breathe Clean Air Group over the last 3 years. Trafford Council have now served legal papers to the High Court, launching a Legal Challenge against the Secretary of State’s decision.
Everyone must continue to stand up for our community to improve our borough and not to destroy it. This plant has been rejected by the Local Residents, Local Councillors and MPs from all Political Persuasions, Trafford Council and Salford City Council and must NOT be built.
Thank you again to the Breathe Clean Air Group for continuing to fight against this abomination! Although I couldn’t attend the ECM last night, I did e-mail my local councillors to thank them for also continuing to fight. I also requested that we have a permanent air quality measuement system put into place to confirm the current poor air quality. That way, if the worst did happen, we could identify the impact of the plant and get it shut down. Sue
